Let’s get lit(erary).
-
Choose monthly or bi-monthly delivery, or pay for six months upfront (we also have gift options!)
We post the books, you get book mail.
Some months, we host a virtual book club, featuring a Q&A with the author.
Rinse and repeat.
-
Heck yes. The Secret Book Club is for you if:
You freaking love books.
You want to get back into reading after a long hiatus.
You can’t be bothered thinking of what to read next.
You want to expand your bookish horizons.
You love brown paper packages tied up with string (and classic musicals… but that isn’t a requirement).
You want to be part of a lit(erary) community and join online book club discussions.
-
Sign up before the 20th of the month to receive next month’s book. So, if you sign up before midnight on 19 September, you get October’s book. If you sign up on 20 September, you get November’s book. The subscription fee comes out of your account on the 20th (not when you first sign up).
-
No, sweetie. It’s not that kinda love. You can cancel or pause your subscription anytime.

Hey friend, we get it. We’d be asking the same question, because we’re (bookish) snobs like that. The truth is, we know our literary shit. Our founder, Amy Lovat, is a published author, manages the second-largest regional writers’ festival in Australia, teaches creative writing, and has a bloody PhD in books. She’s been reading (and reading) for many years, worked in many bookshops, and even opened her own bookshop with her wife, Laura, before the pandemic. Since 2017, Amy has been spreading the magic of Secret Book Stuff and picking books for you and your friends.
See what we’ve sent our readers so far!
Nice things people have said
(no bribes required!)
“Thanks for another awesome book club, I absolutely love them! I loved the book… the writing, the story, the characters. It all came together to create an interesting journey that I loved being on. I can’t wait for the next one. It is honestly the best feeling, everything about the book club – the wrapping, the personal note, the anticipation of what we’re going to get. Thank you!”
— Karen
“I just received my order the other day and just wanted to say thank you! Not only do i love a handwritten note but to get one that compliments my taste in books… next level loveliness! The chocolate was a beautiful (and delicious) surprise too. I really love your content and receiving packages from you so I’ll definitely be ordering more. Thanks again Amy!”
— Denni
“My sister hasn’t read anything in forever. She’s 19 and wanted to get into it, so I sent her to your page and recommendations. She read whatever you said and she LOVED it. And since then all her friends have read the book too and they’ve started their own little book club. None of these girls were readers before now! You’ve changed lives.”
— Florence
Meet Amy!
Bibliophile, writer, whisky enthusiast. Amy Lovat started Secret Book Stuff in 2017 after finishing her PhD in English & Writing. She didn’t know what to do with the teetering piles of books that she hauled from rental to rental, so she started wrapping them in brown paper and leaving them around her hometown of Newcastle as random acts of kindness. From humble beginnings, to a physical bookshop she opened with her wife, Laura, Secret Book Stuff has evolved and changed over the years, but the purpose remains the same: to spread a love of books and reading. Now, Amy is a published author, manages the second-largest regional writers’ festival in Australia, teaches creative writing, and sends her favourite books to subscribers of her Secret Book Club.
